Red to violet, what each colour is shorthand for, how to tell which centre needs attention, and one practice per colour.

Why the colours exist at all

The seven chakra colours are a memory device. Each centre governs a recognisable part of life, and giving it a colour makes the whole map easy to hold in your head — red at the base for safety, violet at the crown for perspective, the spectrum in between. Used well, the colour is a label for a pattern you already notice in yourself.

The seven colours and what they mean

Root — Red

Base of the spine. Safety, money, belonging, the ground under you. Signs: restlessness, financial anxiety, poor sleep. Practice: barefoot walking, a fixed morning routine, slow exhales.

Sacral — Orange

Below the navel. Emotion, creativity, pleasure, flow. Signs: numbness, creative block, guilt about rest. Practice: hip movement, water, one unproductive creative hour a week.

Solar Plexus — Yellow

Upper abdomen. Confidence, boundaries, follow-through. Signs: people-pleasing, procrastination, stomach tension. Practice: one small kept promise a day, core breathing, saying no once.

Heart — Green

Centre of the chest. Connection, forgiveness, grief. Signs: guardedness, resentment, chest tightness. Practice: chest opening, one honest message, gratitude that names people not things.

Throat — Blue

Base of the throat. Expression, honesty, being heard. Signs: throat tightness, over-explaining, sentences you never said. Practice: humming, chanting, writing the unsaid sentence down.

Third Eye — Indigo

Between the brows. Clarity, intuition, decision-making. Signs: overthinking, screen fatigue, second-guessing. Practice: candle gazing, ten minutes of silence, deciding before noon.

Crown — Violet or White

Top of the head. Meaning, perspective, feeling part of something larger. Signs: flatness, cynicism, going through the motions. Practice: stillness without a goal, time outdoors, no headphones.

How to use the colours without overcomplicating it

  1. Read the list and mark the two descriptions that felt uncomfortably accurate.
  2. Start with the lower of the two — the base of the system settles the rest.
  3. Do that centre's one practice daily for two weeks. Only one.
  4. Wear or keep the colour nearby purely as a reminder.
  5. Review after two weeks and move up one centre.

Frequently asked questions

What are the 7 chakra colours in order? From the base of the spine upward: root red, sacral orange, solar plexus yellow, heart green, throat blue, third eye indigo and crown violet or white. The order runs bottom to top and follows the spectrum.
What do the chakra colours mean? Each colour is a shorthand for what that centre governs — red for safety and stability, orange for creativity and emotion, yellow for confidence, green for connection, blue for expression, indigo for clarity and violet for perspective.
How do I know which chakra is blocked?Work from the symptom, not the colour. Money worry and restlessness point to the root; difficulty speaking up points to the throat; feeling scattered points to the third eye. Start with the lowest centre showing signs.
Can wearing a colour balance a chakra?Wearing or surrounding yourself with a colour is a reminder, not a treatment. It works because it keeps the intention visible all day — pair it with the matching practice and it becomes genuinely useful.
Is chakra colour work religious? No. Heal with Kiran offers non-religious, non-denominational wellness coaching. This is a framework for noticing patterns, and it does not replace medical or mental-health care.
